Adult Crested Eagle …. Rare black phase

The rare black color phase offers fantastic camouflage protection.

The adult eagle in its rare color phase. Notice the crest on the head. Similarities to the Harpy Eagle can cause  misidentification even among experts in the field.

For more on the Crested Eagle and our hunt for this rare bird go to our "From the Field" web page for the month of February 2001.
